Fluensee Dock Selected by Sun Microsystems to Manage
the Distribution of its IT Equipment for Trade Shows
Technology Chosen for its Compatibility with Java and the Solaris 10
Operating System (OS) and Rich RFID Functionality
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - November 1, 2006 -
RFID-enabled asset management provider, Fluensee Inc., today announced
that Sun Microsystems Inc. (NASD:SUNW) has selected and installed Fluensee Dock™
to manage the distribution of the IT equipment that is designated for shipment to
various trade shows and conferences around the world. Fluensee Dock was chosen
because it offers support for the Sun Solaris 10 OS, is written in Java and works
well with Sun's industry-leading hardware platform.
Sun Microsystems' Events Group is responsible for managing all
IT equipment required for the hundreds of tradeshows and events in which the company
participates. The IT equipment is stored in a central warehouse and then shipped
around the world to support the needs of the events. Fluensee's RFID-enabled application,
Fluensee Dock, is being used by the Events Group to improve customer service and enhance
its visibility into equipment, inventory management, shipping and receiving functions.
"Each month we are involved in many events and tradeshows all
over the world and managing the shipment of equipment to these shows is a large
undertaking," said John Wetherill, project manager for The Sun Microsystems Events
Group. "Fluensee Dock has helped us to significantly reduce the labor required to ship and
return items going to the tradeshows."
Fluensee Dock provides enhanced visibility of Sun's equipment
at any given time in the shipping process. It provides proactive alerts around movement,
and changes to assist in managing the entire operation. Based on RFID technology,
Fluensee Dock is an advanced solution for tracking and managing shipping and receiving
functions in a warehouse environment.
"Sun Microsystems is an excellent example of a large enterprise
with a significant volume of valuable technology assets that require shipping and receiving
to and from various locations around the world," said Chris Brumett, vice president of
operations, Fluensee Inc. "Fluensee Dock automates the process and provides real-time
location and status information that the Events Group needs to be successful in its
conferences and tradeshows."
